to come. Anyone interested in learning more about gardening
is welcome to attend.

Featured
keynote speakers are Janet Macunovich, co-founder of both
the Practical Gardening
Institute and the Michigan
School of Gardening, and Art Cameron, a professor of horticulture
at Michigan State University specializing in exotic herbaceous
perennials and ornamental grasses.
Known as the “Gardener’s
Personal Trainer,” Macunovich is noted
for taking the mystery out of successful gardening and appealing garden design.
She started the Practical Gardening Institute in 1996 to provide high-quality,
practical training in gardening, design and horticulture. Recognizing home gardeners’ thirst
for practical training and advice, she founded the Practical Gardening Institute
in 2004. It serves gardeners from coast to coast.
An Advanced Master Gardener,
Macunovich has authored nine gardening books, hosted a weekly
radio show on gardening
and for 12 years penned a weekly newspaper column
for the Detroit News titled “Growing Concerns.”
Macunovich will present two programs at March Garden Day.
“
Hedge Your Bets” takes a hard look at the USDA hardiness zones and how
they apply to your particular area. You’ll learn what makes plants “hardy” and
how to coax tender plants beyond their advertised zone. She will also spill
the beans on varieties that cannot be trusted to survive in their catalog-claimed
zones.
With “Visualizing Landscape
Changes”, Macunovich will share her thought
process for visualizing changes in the garden. This method will help gardeners “see
into the future of their garden’s landscape” before making critical
alterations.

simple bottom-line about gardening and improving your yard.

An avid botanist and perennial
gardener, MSU’s Art Cameron is known for
his exuberant presentation style, beautiful slide shows and his passion for plants – especially
ornamental grasses. Cameron teaches and conducts research on production and utilization
of native and exotic herbaceous perennials, ornamental grasses and other great
garden plants. A world traveler, Cameron has traveled the world, lecturing throughout
the United States, Europe, Australia, South Africa and Thailand, and is always
in search of the next “best plant.” He was given the Perennial Plant
Association’s Academic Award in 1999.
Cameron’s March Garden Day program, titled: “Landscaping in Tune
with Nature – Creating a Natural Look in the Landscape,” explores
gardening styles that harmonize with native surroundings. Cameron will single-out
a wide assortment of native and non-native plants which help to create a natural
look in sun, shade, wet or dry environments. He’ll also share ideas on
the best ways to utilize this unique group of plants to design landscapes “in
